(sheet), signed "Wilhelm Kobell".

Since then family-owned.
Wilhelm von Kobells delicate, bright watercolor landscapes
are highlights of German romanticism. Our red chalk drawing
is an early work, presumably drawn in the 1780s. It is
apparent that Kobell was inspired by French landscape
drawings of the 18th century.
Depicting a landscape with prominent human interferences -
the geometrical adits - is highly unusual at the time. It
emphasises the laboriousness of the people during the
industrialization, and the resulting changes in nature.
