HANS WILLIARD (1832 Dresden 1867 )
On Top of the Plauenschen Berge. dated "1862"
Drawing in brown ink, graphite with blue and light brown
wash. Several accents in red and opaque white. Partially
varnished. 252 x 204 mm.
Signed "Hanns Williard fecit", titled in the left bottom: "Plauenscher
Grund 1862".
Laid down on cardboard, titled underneath the drawing "Auf
den Plauenschen Bergen" (Eng: "On Top of the Plauenschen
Berge.") and dated on top "1862".
The Plauensche Grund has always attracted artists since the
18th century, as it was the closest place to Dresden with
access to wild nature. Today it is a part of the city of
Dresden.
1862, when Williards drawing was realised, the idylle
appears to be untainted. Taking a closer look, one can
already see a second, more modern railway bridge in addition
to the old one.
This foretells the story of the soon to vanish wild nature -
making room for industrialised life.
