KONRAD BÖSE

Countrywoman in Prayer

Preliminary drawing in black chalk, broad brush and brown colour on light brown paper, 446 x 417 mm, stamped verso at the bottom left: “Nachlaß K. Boese” (estate of K. Boese).
Condition: A small tear at right border, not affecting the actual drawing
At the “Große Berliner Kunstausstellung 1909” more than 40 drawings by Böse where exhibited. The catalogue includes the same model as “Weinende Frau” (weeping woman, ill. no. 612). This drawing now belongs to the Kupferstichkabinett Berlin (Inventory number: B-21 Böse 1). A further drawing with this model in a similar technique is in the National Gallery Washington.
In 1928 the Gallery Thannhauser (Berlin) organized the exhibition: “Prof. Konrad Böse – geb. 23.6.1852 zu Neustadt bei Magdeburg - Zeichnungen aus den Jahren 1880 – 1928”
