Farmhouses in the Woods
Brush and grey ink and wash, 131 x 196 mm, Watermark: hand with a bar
and tetrapetalous clover-leaf. Inscribed by a later hand: »Breugel«.
Old mount was inscibed: »N. 50. A.D. 1778«
Condition:
Three tears varying from 20 mm to 8 mm, stained.
Provenance: 18 th. century collection of the Netherlands (?)
Attribution:
The drawing is comparable to a woodland scene in the collection of
Frits Lugt in Paris (Inv. No 2231) which was also attributed to Jan
Bruegel.
