CHRISTOPH GERTNER
(ca. 1575 – after 1623 Magdeburg)
Diana and Actaeon, around 1616
Oil on copper, 218 x 249 -251 mm, possibly once bearing a monogram at
the lower
border.
Three drawings of this theme are known (two at the Staatsgalerie
Stuttgart, one at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston). Our painting
shows several analogies with the drawing at the Staatsgalerie
Stuttgart, bearing a monogram and the date 1616 (Inv. No C 3747).
Condition: smaller losses of oil colour, colour in some parts rather
thin.
