HENDRIK GOLTZIUS (1558 Bracht - 1617 Haarlem) (workshop)
Amor
Pen and brown ink with pale brown wash, ca. 120 x 92 mm.
Most likely a workshop repetition of the same subject,
visible as a detail in the large size drawing "Venus and
Mars taken by surprise by Vulcan" (The J. Paul Getty Museum,
Los Angeles; Nr. 84GG810.1).
The repetition of appealing motifs was a common phenomenon
in artist's workshops. Jakob de Gheyn II, Pieter de Jode the
Elder, Jakob Matham, Jan Saenredam were some of the most
famous scholars of Goltzius.
