CARL WILHELM MÜLLER (1839 Dresden 1904)
At the Shore of the Elbe River
Watercolor and body color, graphite, 231 x 366 mm on woven
paper; signed and dated at the bottom right "C. W. M 1892"
Only after the death of his teacher Ludwig Richter (1803
Dresden 1884), Müller appears to have departed from his his
master's style. Modern Art Nouveau elements combined with
detailed motifs now define his view of nature. Examples of
this are the detailed tree in the left foreground, depicted
in front of broad fields of color.
